Types of New Zealand ETA
Applicants can apply for the following NZ ETA types, depending on their eligibility:
NZ ETA for Transit
For travellers passing through New Zealand en route to another destination.
- Validity: 2 years
- Stay Duration: Up to 24 hours
NZ ETA for Cruise Ship Travellers
For travellers entering New Zealand on a cruise ship, including short port stops.
- Validity: 2 years
- Stay Duration: 28 days per visit
NZ ETA for Australian Residence Card Holders
For non-citizen Australian permanent residents travelling on a foreign passport.
- Validity: 2 years
- Stay Duration: 3 months per visit
NZ ETA for Short Stays
For tourists, business visitors, and family visits from visa-waiver countries.

Essential Documents for the New Zealand ETA
For all types of eTA, applicants are generally required to provide the basic documents listed below:
- Passport: A valid passport is required, with at least 3 months’ validity from your intended date of arrival in New Zealand.
- Applicant Photo: A recent digital photograph of the applicant must be uploaded, taken against a plain white background.

Can the New Zealand ETA Be Extended?
The New Zealand ETA does not allow any extensions once it has expired. If you plan to travel again or extend your stay, you must submit a new application through the same process before re-entering New Zealand.
